Research

ISFA, in partnership with the Natural Stone Institute (NSI), has teamed up with researchers from the Yale School of Medicine’s Occupational and Environmental Medicine department to dig into what respirable crystalline silica really means for surface fabricators and their crews. This effort goes beyond basic safety tips — it’s grounded in science and real industry data to help you protect your people and your business.

The research includes:

  • Exposure Findings – Yale reviewed silica exposure data from fabricators to better understand how and where exposures occur in the shop.
  • Medical Literature Review – A detailed look at peer-reviewed medical studies on health outcomes tied to respirable crystalline silica, helping paint the full picture on long-term risks and what controls make sense.
